The South Korean navy has called off the search for 45 sailors from the sunken ship Cheonan, after requests from family members.

Family members made the request after two sailors were killed and seven more still remain missing, after their rescue craft was hit by a freighter.

The Korean navy crew were on a fishing boat when a Cambodian- registered freighter crashed into their vessel on Friday night.

Fifty eight sailors were rescued from the Cheonan, while one crew member died, the Korea Herald said.
